the iceDome
The iceDome, situated at an altitude of 3,200 meters above sea-level in the heart of the Schnals Valley Glacier region and embedded in eternal ice, consists of three apse-like side aisles and an 18-meter-high round dome. With great idealism and indomitable fortitude, the iceDome was built in the winter of 2007/2008 by a construction team led by the American Tim Linhart.
In May of 2009, the Schnals Valley Glacier Company Company shrouded the iceDome with a protective covering and a 6-meter-deep layer of snow to insulate it against sunlight and summertime temperatures. After completion of further work on the iceDome, it is now ready for another and innovative season of iceMusic. Hopefully, it will endure for many more years to come.
